Distinguished and Famous people from Burke

🌟 Frederick Walker

Frederick Walker is buried at Floraville Station, south of Burketown, after dying during work on a telegraph-route survey in 1866. He had previously led a search for Burke and Wills and served as the first commandant of the Native Police. That policing role places him within the difficult history of colonial frontier conflict, alongside his later surveying work. His grave at Floraville provides a surviving local connection with that final journey.
