Burketown Splash Park

Cool off and play at Burke Shire Council’s local splash park. Water runs for about 20 minutes after the green activation button is pressed. The Council currently lists opening hours of 8.30 am to 6.30 pm on weekdays and weekends. Children must be supervised by a responsible adult.

Burke Shire Council sport and recreation facilities

Morning Glory Park in Burketown and Wills Development Road in Gregory have children’s playgrounds. Families can also use multi-purpose courts in both communities for tennis and basketball; bring your own balls, racquets and other equipment.

📚 Early learning and family connection

Burketown Community Childcare and Family Hub

The Council-operated Hub on Beames Street offers playgroups, childcare and after-school activities. Phone 07 4745 5125 to confirm suitable ages, enrolment requirements, available places and current session times.

Burke Shire Library

Children and young people can borrow books, DVDs and audiobooks through free library membership. A parent or guardian must join anyone under 18. The library is inside the Council Administration building on Musgrave Street and is listed as open Monday to Friday, 9 am to 4 pm.

State Delivered Kindergarten at Burketown State School

Children from Burketown and surrounding communities can take part in a play-based kindergarten program led by a qualified early childhood teacher with teacher aides. Contact the school for program details and a child registration application.

Gidgee Healing Family Wellbeing Service

This free, culturally responsive regional service supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities across the North West and Lower Gulf. Its focus includes social, emotional and spiritual wellbeing, alongside strengthening families’ capacity to care safely for children. Call 1800 433 443 and select option 6. Family and Child Connect

Parents, carers, relatives and young people can ask for help connecting with services for parenting, relationships, housing, health and other family needs. Call 13 FAMILY (13 32 64) for referral to the closest service. Meetings may be arranged at home or another mutually safe and convenient place.

Triple P – Positive Parenting Program online courses

Queensland parents and carers can complete free, self-paced online courses. Choices cover babies under one, children under 12, teenagers aged 10 to 16, separation and parenting children with disability. Check the individual course for its length and eligibility.

Young people aged 12 to 25 can access free, confidential short-term support by webchat, phone or email. Family members, friends and carers can also seek support about a young person in this age range. No referral or mental health care plan is required.
