Burke National Events

1. Birdsville Races

4. Burke & Wills Dig Tree Festival

Held in April in the Burke and Wills Dig Tree Historical Reserve, this festival celebrates the explorers Burke and Wills and their fateful journey through the Outback in 1861. The festival includes guided tours of the reserve, campfire storytelling, live music, and food and drink.

5. Big Country Bulls and Broncs

This two-day event in August showcases some of Australia's best bull and bronc riders, as well as live music, food, and drink. You can experience an adrenalin fuelled two days with action packed competitions and entertainment.

6. Goyder's Pillar

The legendary 19th-century explorer, George Goyder, made several journeys across the Australian outback, and one of his most memorable is commemorated each year with this annual event. Celebrated in May, it brings together locals and visitors alike to pay homage to Goyder's Pillar, a majestic sandstone column that marks Goyder's most enduring legacy.

7. Gulf Country Frontier Days Festival

Held in August, the Gulf Country Frontier Days Festival is a celebration of the region's rich cultural heritage. It features a diverse program of events, including horse racing, rodeos, bush poetry, and live music, as well as a wide range of food and drink.

8. Outback Festival

This acclaimed event is held every two years in September and attracts visitors from all around Burke and the surrounding regions. The festival is known for its quirky outback spirit, featuring a range of events and activities such as the famous Dunny Races, Australian jillaroo and jackaroo events, and bushman's paradise.

9. Gregory Races and Campdraft

10. Julia Creek Dirt n Dust Festival

There is plenty of entertainment from live music to local food stalls to indulge in as well.
